And now, for something completely different 2006 July 30

Okay, I admit it. While I may scoff at horoscope-reading, aura-gazing, fortune cookie-believing kooks, I do have a weakness for personality typology. It’s likely to involve just as much self-projection as the other methods, but gosh darnit it, I just can’t help thinking Jung had something going there. Which may explain why every time I see a link to the Meyers-Brigg typology test, I just can’t help but take it, even though I’ve always been an ENFP (aka Champion Idealist) and likely always will be. I periodically read the descriptions (Heiss and Butt — heh — are eerily spot-on)… it keeps me aware of my faults, like stepping on the scale every day to monitor my weight.
What do you guys think about personality types? And more relevantly, what do you think the ideal “lawyer” personality type would be? According to Butt (heh), my type is actually more suited to journalism, which was my original career goal (I’m a rebel. Yup, that’s me). If anyone gets the “lawyer” type, will you let us know? I’d get bored too quickly to look it up myself — I may have “zany charm,” but I also have a “short attention span.” Ask Butt (heh). Okay, ok, actually that was from Heiss, I believe. Still: Butt. Poor dude.
I just did the test, and apparently I’m an ENFJ who is also called a Teacher type. Which is weird, because every single time I do this test (once a year or so, when I get bored online) I get a different result. Hmm…
I think an ideal “lawyer” personality type is a person who can understand both the big and small picture, who is detail-oriented but not lost in the details. Someone who can be both social yet an objective observer…basically someone who can balance many traits that seem to be diametric opposites.
lol — nicolasix has the same personality as Ross Perot? now that’s cause for doubt. *grin*
It does rather sound like you from what I can tell over the computer though.
I usually come out as INTJ (Mastermind), and it seems mostly right. I think ENTP is the lawyer personality type, so schooled is the closest of the three of us so far.
im an INTJ as well. it does say we can be found in the law field as well. it is very spot on with some of my traits, especially with the specialties/know what i know and what i DONT know/etc.
I thought the “lawyer” type was ENTP.
I’m an INFJ, the counselor type, I believe. I’ve always had that result.
From what little I’ve seen, there are different lawyer types. Tax lawyers can get away with being highly introverted, but litigators need to be more extroverted.
I’ve always been struck by the differences between my scores on the employment-oriented Meyers-Briggs and the regular version. On one I’m ESTP/ESTJ and on the other I’m in the INFP/INFJ ballpark.
Last year a bunch of the law student blogs got on this topic, and we all went and took the online Myers-Briggs, and there was a disproportionately large number of INFJs. According to the descriptions on the web, only something like 8% of all people are INFJs.
Hmmm… that seems like it would be more revealing of the blog-inclined law student than law students in general, though. But it sounds interesting — I wonder if it’s searchable/in the archives?
Got here a little late, as I was out of town this weekend, but I too am an INTJ (mastermind). Reading the descriptions really resonated with me.
ESTJ. Extreme E (100%) and extreme J (99%). The only other ESTJ I’ve ever met is going to be joining me in law school this fall. I wonder how people with the same personality type get along (if we try to study together, having some of the same weaknesses and such)…
I’d think it would be difficult to stick with people of your own personality… it like how it’s often hard to get along with your parents because you’re so much alike.
More specifically though, I think it would depend on the personality component. Multiple extroverts/introverts might get along well bc of their similar social interaction preferences. I think the difficulty may arise in the F/T and J/P oppositions.
My type always comes out as intp. A lot of the time, when I read what kind of jobs my type is good at, lawyer or judge is one of them. I don’t think I want to be a lawyer or judge, though. I’m going to art school for college.
It seems like there can still be a big difference in what skills people like to use and are good at, even if they’re the same type. My dad is also intp, he was always good at Math and bad at English class. I was always bad at math and average at English class. The only thing I’ve ever been very good at at all is painting and drawing and sculpting.
There seems to be a disproportionate amount of NTs on the internet.
